When I was working on my sister’s calculator (a Ti- 83+), I was editing groups when the calc turned off. I pressed on, and it flashed on then off. I put in the link cable, because I know that when you put it in, the calc automatically turns on. I looked around on the calc for a bit, then pressed “2nd” “Off”. I hit off a few times, and all that did is lock up the calc (It showed the 2nd symbol and the contrast “7” in the upper right corner. After that I couldn’t do anything.).
I took a triple A out, and then put it back in. The same thing as before- it flashed on then off. I used the link cable again to turn it on.
I decided to do a self- test, so I went to [Mode], and then pressed “Alpha” “S”, then [Enter] to start it. The calc displayed a zero in the center of the screen, and after several seconds, displayed “ROM failed”.
I went to the link menu and selected receive, then got my calculator (a Ti- 83+ silver edition) and selected send OS”. After about ten minutes, the process of copying my OS to my sister’s calc was complete. When I pressed 2nd Off, it worked just fine. Everything is now OK with it, although I am still puzzled at how I corrupted my sister’s ROM. Could you help me answer that? If you could, I would GREATLY appreciate it.
Also, I was wondering. If you archive your programs, can you take all the batteries- including the backup battery- out and still have the programs on the 83+ S.E.?
Just so you know, both my sister’s and my calcs are Operating System Version 1.13
Thank you for your time,
From grateful BASIC programmer, Chris K.
